So that’s right, I chose to jump out of a perfectly functioning airplane. This is something I always wanted to do. Before starting back at college this summer, I convinced my dad that we should go skydiving. We did not tell my mom (haha).
I like the adrenaline rush from experiences, and this fits the bill. I am not going to lie it was a bit scary. Your feet hanging off of the plane and looking down. We were jumping from 12,000 feet. This was my first jump, and it was a tandem jump. Tandem skydiving is great for a first-time jumper. I knew I had an expert attached to me. The expert does most of the work.
Once I jumped out of the plane, the first thing I realized was that I could not catch my breath. The wind gusts were so loud I could not talk even if I wanted to. I traveled at full free-falling speed in the air for approximately 30 seconds, a sensation that is difficult to describe.
As you can see, I was wearing goggles and could look around and see the sights. This gave me the opportunity to see things from a different perspective— different than being on a plane. The air was crisp, and the wind had a different feet. The instructor pointed out where my Dad was coasting along. He had jumped first and was so far from where I was floating. It is crazy how fast the jump and wind take you.
After pulling the cord, I was in the air for 5 minutes. It was a relaxing feeling, floating through the air. You are just in a state of ultimate peace. The next step was getting prepared to land. Once my feet touched the ground, I ran to complete the landing. This is an experience I would do again and recommend to others.
